Dear Symphony Supporters:
All of us at the Symphony wish to thank all of you who responded to our efforts last spring to restore the proposed cuts to our funding by the Santa Monica City Council. We were mostly successful, in great part due to your fervent support of the orchestra. Although our task is far from completed, we hope for your continued support in these economically trying times.
Since there was indeed a reduction in funding from the City, we must strive to make up this shortfall in order to continue to bring you the highest quality music that this fine orchestra is capable of. We particularly urge those of you who have not yet joined the "Friends of the Santa Monica Symphony" to do so.
We are expanding our offerings to the community this year by presenting our very first Children's Concert for elementary school children in the Santa Monica-Malibu School District, on April 27. We plan to have about 2,000 children attend this concert at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium to hear a program that they will surely love.
We are further pleased to announce that our fine Conductor and Music Director Allen Robert Gross has agreed to extend his tenure with the orchestra for an additional three years. We are all very pleased.
We welcome you back to this, our 59th consecutive season and hope that you will have as enjoyable a time listening to us as we do in bringing these programs to you!
