We will be performing the Nielsen wind quintet for the upper elementary grade levels, movement III Theme and Variations. We will use this movement to do instrument demonstrations (each wind is featured in at least one variation), discuss the musical form 'Theme and Variations', and demonstrate how the composer varies tempo, rhythm, note length, mode (major vs minor key), style, and instrumentation in each variation to alter the original theme.
